One day a call came in from a teacher who wanted a Montessori photo shoot done quickly and needed a price.
It happened so fast. One of those moments when decades of philanthropic acts are recognized in a small, but significant way.
Film Production & Photo Philanthropy
I seriously always loved embarking upon filming and photographic production of events and programs – all simply for the pleasure of learning to do it and for giving it away
So You Want New Website Photographs?
And when you get that ‘I need photos quickly how much let me pay you now’ phone call, well you have the feeling someone is watching out for you and the world is good again for a moment. Or it’s a scam? Because it all sounds like one of those phone calls to you. Until you realize the person you are talking to is your children’s teacher! Pinch me I’m dreaming!
I personally LOVE taking pictures of the school environment where all the Jones kids have been educated, socialized and become generally very well adjusted young women.
But philanthropic acts of film and photo production have their limits in terms of what you can give and still pay bills. Well. I did go over board a bit! Happy now though, the Principal is taking on a project that is above and beyond anything I’d ever hoped. And it’s giving such a lot of local people really great vibes!
Down Syndrome Acceptance & Special Olympics Training !
My Down Syndrome daughter has had such a nurturing reception from the Principal in particular whose special needs training will be put to good use this year in the 2019 Special Olympics Swim competition on August 17th at Founders Park in Islamorada, Florida.
But Isn’t This A Blog About The Business Of Photography?
YEA! This blog is about the photo shoot: well I simply need to share the photographs that were delivered to http://www.MontessoriLive.org for their refreshed website. I must say it was the best organized and easiest photo shoot ever. I will done team !
What’s An ‘Easy’ Photo Shoot
I arrived with a timeline they gave me, very precise, to the minute and spent the three hours there shooting every aspect of a capacity attended interactive teacher training Montessori program. As well as the portraits requested and the exterior group shots with the sign. And the materials and the classroom shoot!
Sony Flash Synchronized – FE1.4 50mm Sony Alpha9
We also brought the 70-200mm lens and a wide. But to make the day brilliant I had my favorite assistant: Mira Jones supporting me . She is an up and coming photographer with an exceptionally creative eye. Her shots are the best. We didn’t think to dust. Whoops!
It was a bit like shooting fish in a fish bowl! Except these were people. And Montessori materials. In the classroom setting. Nothing was moving fast.
Montessori Who Needs It!
Between two world wars several educational theories born of a need to prevent such inhuman acts, came to life and the Montessori Pedagogy was one of them.
Environment – Recital – Prom – Softball – Digital Tech Company – Real Estate – Wedding
We have been challenged. The last 6 months have been insanely creative. End of school, an insurance claim for a camera that went for a salt water swim, wedding industry scammers, new account sign ups, finally all secure websites and a range of challenging photographic and film shoots to keep anyone’s head in a spin.
It’s open. Fully. We stumbled upon it today, weren’t sure, but are salivating over the magical moments the family will have when we staycation here. And the best part: we will bring the doggies!!!!!
The children and the dogs will so love this refreshing view from the balcony at ‘Calusa’ that overlooks the Mahogany and hardwood hammock to the blue waters of the bay, birds, boats and beach. And the dog tiki’s along the Hammock Pathways.
HAPPY SMILE BRINGS MORE THAN JUST COFFEE
Our cheerful coffee deliverer made the morning particularly splendid.
As soon as we parked the car the ‘new’ design and decor reeled us both in like willing fish. No question about style or trend setting here. Bakers Cay has a stunning new look. I’m not into promotional content. But this place is refreshing. So where to begin?
The ‘PORT COCHERE’
Bakers Cay’s Port Cochere
That ‘ahhhhh yes’ moment when the seating arrangements all lead to this view…and the cappuccino is really really yummy. Delivered with a very genuine smile. We found out 90% of the staff were retained after Irma. Jobs were found within the company elsewhere and accommodation secured for those in need. All this was not publicized. But it illustrates that really good streak in humanity.
And here is the Calusa Restaurant View

DOG GOODY BAG AT CHECK-IN
Dog daze at the beach. When you check in your four legged friends get their own doggy bag. And the wee tiny Tiki dog huts are sprinkled around the place where a dog may stretch out in the shade!

All these empty beach chairs – anticipating the rush!
Vermont ski and snow at Christmas from a Sony Alpha 7 rii, a GoPro Hero7 Black, and a fabulous Karma Drone. Warning! Bring puzzles and playing cards because TMobile is woefully inadequate here. NO Service. All the way down the mountain to Boston.
WIFI at the base lodges at Jackson Gore and Sitting Bull at Okemo Mountain Resort. We love the family without the smart phones. But! The rare moments of wifi were our saving graces. We all work online in some form or another. And we lost each other several times on the mountain skiing without phone service. Luckily there is an endless supply of food and drink available any base lodge you get to, with the EPIC PASS you can load on to the family credit card. Be warned. The kids will use this service.
VAIL RESORTS VAIL RESORTS CELEBRATES 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE EPIC PASS BY HONORING THE ARMY’S 10TH MOUNTAIN DIVISION AND MEN AND WOMEN OF THE U.S. ARMED FORCES, AS WELL AS SERVICE MEMBERS OF CANADA AND AUSTRALIA, WITH A SPECIAL MILITARY EPIC PASS AND USD$1.5 MILLION IN CONTRIBUTIONS TO VETERAN ORGANIZATIONS
We used the Sony G OSS 70-200 mm lens at F2.8 for this one. Worth the extra money for that lens to get that uber sharp front part of the shot and the slightly out of focus rear. Lovely and clean. We bought the lens for the show. It’s not the best investment. We haven’t paid it back yet! How to be disciplined with buying equipment is something we are only JUST NOW learning. I need a Shark Tank shredding! Lucky for us our credit score is FANTASTIC. So plenty of lenders….zero percent! DISCIPLINE needs to be applied there too. Our business is in its 2nd year. We have done well considering where we began.
